Benedictine Morning Prayer

Lauds
O God, come to my assistance; O Lord make haste to help me.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever, amen.

Psalm 67
O God,be gracious to us and bless us.
and let your face shed its light upon us.
So will your ways be known upon earth,
and all nations learn of your saving help.
Let the peoples praise you, O God,
let all the peoples praise you.
Let the nations be glad and exult
for your rule the world with justice.
With fairness you rule the peoples,
you guide the nations on earth.
Let the peoples praise you, O God,
let all the peoples praise you.
The earth has yielded its fruit
for God, our God, has blessed us.
May God still give us his blessing
till all the ends of the earth revere him.
Let the peoples praise you, O God
Let all the peoples praise you.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.

Hymn
Eternal glory of the sky, blest hope of weak humanity;
The Father's sole begotten one, and offspring of virginity.
Uplift us with your arm of might, and let our hearts rise pure and bright.
Ad,ardent in God's praises pay, the thanks we owe God every day.
Praise and honor to you Father,to your only Son divine,
equal glory to the Spirit, in our hearts your love enshrine. Amen.

Psalm 51
Have mercy on me, God, in your kindness.  In your compassion blot out my offense.O wash me more and more from my guilt and cleanse me from my sin.  My offenses truly you know them; my sin is always before me.  Against you, you alone, have I sinned; what is evil in your sight I have done.
That you may be justified when you give sentence and be without reproach when you judge.  O see, in guilt I was born, a sinner was I conceived.  Indeed you love truth in the heart; then in the secret of my heart teach me wisdom.  O purify me, then I shall be clean; O wash me,I shall be made whiter than snow.  Make me hear rejoicing and gladness that the bones you have crushed may thrill.  From my sins turn away your face and blot out all my guilt.  A pure heart create for me, O God, put a steadfast spirit within me.  Do not cast me away from your presence, nor deprive me of your Holy Spirit.  Give me again the jot of your help; with a Spirit of fervor sustain me, that I may teach transgressors your ways and sinners may return to you.  O rescue me, O God, my helper,and my tongue shall ring out your goodness.  O Lord, open my lips and my mouth shall declare your praise. For in sacrifice you take no delight, burnt offering from me you would refuse; my sacrifice, a contrite spirit, a humbled, contrite heart you will not spurn. In your goodness,show favor to Zion; rebuild the walls of Jerusalem.  Then you will be pleased with lawful sacrifice,then you will be offered young bulls on your altar.

Psalm 148
Praise the LordPraise the Lord from the heavens; praise him in the heights!
Praise him, all his angels;  praise him, all his host!
Praise him, sun and moon; praise him, all you shining stars!

Praise him, you highest heavens, and you waters above the heavens!

Let them praise the name of the Lordfor he commanded and they were created.

He established them for ever and ever; he fixed their bounds, which cannot be passed.

Praise the Lord from the earth, you sea monsters and all deeps, fire and hail, snow and frost,

stormy wind fulfilling his command! Mountains and all hills,fruit trees and all cedars!

Wild animals and all cattle, creeping things and flying birds!
Kings of the earth and all peoples,princes and all rulers of the earth!

Young men and women alike, old and young together!

Let them praise the name of the Lord,for his name alone is exalted;

his glory is above earth and heaven. He has raised up a horn for his people, praise for all his faithful,
for the people of Israel who are close to him.
Alleluia!

Psalm 149
Alleluia!
Sing to the Lord a new song,

   his praise in the assembly of the faithful.
Let Israel be glad in its Maker;
   let the children of Zion rejoice in their King.
Let them praise his name with dancing,
   making melody to him with tambourine and lyre.
For the Lord takes pleasure in his people;
   he adorns the humble with victory.
Let the faithful exult in glory;
   let them sing for joy on their couches.
Let the high praises of God be in their throats
   and two-edged swords in their hands,
to execute vengeance on the nations
   and punishment on the peoples,
to bind their kings with fetters
   and their nobles with chains of iron,
to execute on them the judgement decreed.
   This is glory for all his faithful ones.
Alleluia!

Psalm 150
Praise the Lord!
Praise God in his sanctuary;

   praise him in his mighty firmament!
Praise him for his mighty deeds;
   praise him according to his surpassing greatness!

Praise him with trumpet sound;

   praise him with lute and harp!
Praise him with tambourine and dance;
   praise him with strings and pipe!
Praise him with clanging cymbals;
   praise him with loud clashing cymbals!
Let everything that breathes praise the Lord!

Alleluia!

Short reading Ephesians 2:13-16
But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For he is our peace; in his flesh he has made both groups into one and has broken down the dividing wall, that is, the hostility between us. He has abolished the law with its commandments and ordinances, so that he might create in himself one new humanity in place of the two, thus making peace, and might reconcile both groups to God in one body through the cross, thus putting to death that hostility through it.

Benedictus
Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel; for he has come to His people to set them free;
God has raised up from the house of David, a child with power to save.
Through the Holy prophets God promised in ages past to save us from enemy hands,
from the grip of all who hate us.
The Lord favored our ancestors recalling the sacred covenant, the pledge to our ancestor Abraham,
to free us from our enemies, so we might worship without fear and be holy and just all our days.
And you, child will be called Prophet of the most high, for you will come to prepare the way of the Lord by teaching the people salvation through forgiveness of their sin.
In the tender compassion of our God the dawn from on high shall break upon us, a light for those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death, and a guide for our feet on the way of peace.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen .

Litany
Blessed are you, Lord Jesus, the Savior of your people and hope of all the earth. grant us your favor and listen as we pray:
-----Help all humankind to turn from sin and follow the path of him who died for us.
-----Redeem our national life so that we cease to promote hatred, dishonesty, and violence.
-----Enlighten us to discern the anger within us and let it not rule us.
-----Nurture in us a willingness to forgive others, according to the measure of your own bountiful mercy toward our fallen race.
-----Give us patience to work unceasingly for the coming of your kingdom.
-----Grant unending life to the faithful departed.  May they rest in peace.
-----Let us pray for the Kingdom as our Savior taught us:
Our father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil,
for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Concluding Prayer
Lord God, you know we long to give ourselves to you; come and help our weakness; then we shall emerge victorious from the struggle of this day, thanks to him who has loved us so much, Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord. Amen.

Final Blessing
May the Lord bless us, keep away all evil, and lead us to eternal life. Amen.
